Bookstores

All the people who know me claim that I am a geek for going to book stores like
B&N or libraries….so I decided to prove them wrong…not that I don't like
being a geek but I wanted to remove all the essentialistic (stereotyping) ideas
from their minds…Ok so I observed people who came to the store and essentially
noted down the different types of people who came. My analysis and bottom line?
Well that everyone who comes to the bookstores are not geeks…let me start with
my types of ppl….

NOTE:
all these observations are fictional and do not mean to insult anyone anywhere
anytime…not all people fall in these observations and should not be thought to
reflect them…

There are some ppl who come to the bookstore just to show that they are literate and
they enjoy reading and so on…these are ppl who just come there and act as if
they are reading some intense subject but really they are just trying to prove
something to their friends or office associates…or in the worst case
scenarios…yep…even find a romantic partner…oh yeah even in the aisles…..!!

In other instances, they are people who come to listen to the music and figure out
which cd to buy or if they are tech savvy then what to download from the net
after goin home….these kind do not just directly go to the music section. No
sire, they first roam around the book acting as if they are lookin through
everythin and then slowly but surely slide towards the music.

My favorite type are the groups of people who strongly believe that they in their
gender stereotyping simply believe they should be seen reading certain type of
books….for example, there will be some men who think reading romance novels are
against their social classification and will be seen looking at mystery
sections but reading through synopsis of romance novels…these ppl strictly
believe that if they are seen reading romance novels, they will be banished in
the society. Another example is when I saw a woman reading a book on the some
autobiography or sports book but standing in the fiction aisle…she does not like anyone
thinking she is reading that book…

Another type are people who come to read self-help books….these are the most
interesting people in the bookstore…cos they are not seen standing near the
sections…I mean who wants to absolutely show that they have a personal problem
that they need a solution for…especially in books?

Incidently, there are parents of children who come to the stores for their kids
welfare…these parents don't necessarily believe that reading books is great but
are there for their kids….they come to the store looking totally lost and
thinking…"god why are there soo many ppl here?"…..they slowly take their kids
to the kids section and start looking for books…when they find books that might
interest their chidren, they fall into a huge dilemma….the kid starts asking
them to buy all the books…the parent does not want to buy all cos of various
reasons….then the kid asks why they cant buy the books…and at this time there
are others looking at the drama going on….the parent now does not know what to
do and starts to get embarrassed….in most cases, they just give some reason and
take the kid away…in some…they don't have a choice but to buy all the
books….yep….book "child" pressure…

The folks who work at the book store are usually considered to be like real studious
and geeky people…in real life, they usually are not….dont get me wrong…some
are…but most of the requirements for bookstores do not ask for book
knowledge….these workers know when to sell books to the customers….when someone
asks for a book…they not only look for the book but come to find it for u….u
know why?....cos when they took so much effort to come and find it…u will
surely be pressured to buy it….lets say u don't…and u just kind of say thanks
and walk away….u will probably be blessed with a look of resentment…

Another type of customers who come into bookstores are magazine readers. Yep they come solely to read magazines so that they don't have to buy them for lots of money
and once read throw them away uselessly…these ppl like the music ones…don't want
to be obvious in reaching for the magazines…so they tend to read other books
and then go for the books….its a good tactic….and even smarter ones…read a
magazine then read some book or look through some other section…then come read
one more..

Are there more types of people at the bookstores??? yes....can you think of some?
